The Thief of Baghdad was an interesting film, to say the least. It was the feeling. It’s interesting to see how much Disney took from this film and what it didn’t take from it. For example, the sultan’s childlikeness is prevalent in both films. Jaffa being associated with the villain and then becoming Jaffar in the Disney film The film was reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz. Perhaps it was the technicolor and fantasy aspects of the film. The film had comedic aspects, for example, when Abu steals from the market and the men chase after him and miss him. It reminded me of the song One Jump from Disney’s Aladdin. I found myself conflicted in my opinion of the film. Although I found moments that were enjoyable in the film, there were moments in which I found myself disturbed.
The phrase,” the sultan’s childlikeness is prevalent in both films. Jaffa being associated with the villain and then becoming Jaffar in the Disney film. The film was reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz” , particularly compelling. I found it interesting how you compared the films to the wizard of Oz. Each movie contains a villain that is portrayed in a very similar way. I like the connection you made across the movies stating that they are all considered ugly, mean and deceiving without using those words directly. It can be assumed that these characters are ugly, mean and deceiving if you have watched one or all of the movies.
