A Trip to the Market
By : Emily Gonzalez
The Sun’s rays peer in
Compact yet endless,
Cobbled streets
Garments which align the streets
Savory Sweets and Treats
Trinkets and Treasure
Hustle and Bustle in the streets,
Melting pot of people
Native tongues and foreign tongues initiate
Bargains and Chatter
Cameras and Iphones snap shots
While Tourist in their tourist hats
Want to buy everything in sight
Surprised and Delighted by the sweets, trinkets, and treasure of the market.
I love this poem, and its setting in a modern marketplace as compared to the more ancient marketplace we have been reading and seeing all semester. The lines “Native tongues and foreign tongues initiate/Bargains and Chatter” were my favorite!
