ME AS A WRITER

I enjoy writing whether it be for academic purposes or just fun. I think that I am a pretty decent writer. I enjoy writing that discusses art, films, and politics. I believe that writing is powerful, and people tend to forget this. The simple act of someone publishing their opinion and someone else reading it can influence someone’s opinion. I write to share my ideas with the world and express myself. My life experiences, my culture and heritage, and the world around me have influenced my writing. In High school, I was an editor and writer for my school’s newspaper. At this institution, I wrote in different styles of writing such, as narratives, poems, and descriptive writing. My favorite piece of writing, I’ve ever written was a paper I had to write as my theatre final. In this paper, I considered the Positives and negatives of the Classic film West Side Story on Hispanics and Latinos. In this paper, I compared the original film to the 2021 film remake and discussed topics such as stereotypes, representation, and the inspiration behind the film. To this day, this is my favorite paper I’ve ever written. The reason it’s my favorite paper I’ve written is because I could relate to it as a Hispanic and Latina woman and was passionate about the topic at hand. Ways that I’m a good writer include the ability to rewrite a piece from scratch, my openness to people’s opinion’s on my writing, and my attention to detail. I would like to improve on merging several ideas into a sentence and making sure my writing sounds like mine. People Like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Julia Alvarez have inspired my writing. I can’t wait to see me discover my writing style and flourish in my writing as I go throughout college.
